The term “trench mouth” originated from its common origin in World War I soldiers. Although it is more rare today, trench mouth can be a painful and problematic condition. Trench mouth is a form of severe gum infection that causes gum irritation along with ulcers (sores) inside the mouth.

Trench mouth responds well to treatment for trench mouth. Most importantly the bacteria must be removed for the tissues to heal. Establishing good brushing and flossing habits along with the guidance of your dentist will make the most impact on the infection. Trench mouth is painful, so brushing and flossing may be difficult during the early days of treatment. However this is key to regaining your oral health. Antibiotics may also be prescribed if your doctor feels it is necessary.
