Bleeding Gums and Pregnant Women

Most common complains of pregnant women are swollen and bleeding gums. These are actually signs and symptoms of pregnancy gingivitis. Women who are pregnant are prone to gum problems this is due to the excess progesterone level that makes your gums sensitive.  Pregnant women eat more mainly because there are two of them in one body. As a result, when the mother neglects to brush her teeth, the plaque will begin to build up.

As soon as plaques increase, your immune system gets weaken as a result you will have bleeding gums. Studies show that pregnant women who have gum diseases are more likely to have preterm pre-term birth. This is a term used to babies who are born before their expected date. It is commonly known as premature birth. If these studies are true then mommy’s to be should take this matter seriously.  With premature birthing, there is a possibility that your baby will die. This is what we do not like to happen.

Pregnant women should value oral hygiene. Brushing and flossing your teeth regularly will greatly help in preventing or avoiding bleeding gums or other gum diseases. Make sure to know the proper way of brushing your teeth. Improper brushing will lead to gum problems. In addition, women who are pregnant can make use of soft bristled toothbrush and toothpaste for sensitive teeth. This is for gentler brushing. It is advisable to brush your teeth at least twice a day.  Aside from brushing your teeth, you can make use of dental floss and mouthwash. These two added tools can remove dirt from hard to reach areas and at the same time helps freshen up your breath.

Furthermore, pregnant women should schedule a visit to her doctor. Your dentist will suggest a prophylaxis or dental cleaning to remove cavities in your teeth and gums. There are some plaques only dentist sees and can remove. Frequently visiting your dentist will improve your awareness about gum diseases particularly bleeding gums. Moreover, if bleeding persists then this should be monitored as this may be caused of more serious health problems.

Generally speaking, it is better to know the problem ahead of time and treat it rather than knowing it at it higher level. Bleeding gums are curable. One should not worry much just make sure that you pay attention to the issue. Never take is for granted. It may cause you, your own life.
